The product on the post below is an iPod Gelaskin. You slap it on your iPod to protect it. It's like a thin, rubbery sticker that stops it getting scratched. The actual skin itself is good. Easy to apply and looks nice. But I'm not too sure about the transparent screen protector that's supplied with it. Really rather hard to apply and although I cleaned the screen first, there seems to be a tiny quantity of dust between the screen and the protector that's impossible to get out and creates these weird blurry patches and tiny little bubbles.
Not to worry, it's not that noticeable and at least it's topping the screen getting scratched, which is the ULTIMATE NIGHTMARE of iPod ownership. (I speak from experience - and if that does happen, I recommend Applesauce, which is great.)
I managed to escape the SoHotel earlier today. The wi-fi broke in there, which is why I haven't posted anything since Wednesday. Contrary to the Time Out listing, the hotel also lacked cable TV, a TV remote, a minibar, hair dryer and, at first, a wardrobe, until I requested a change of room. Having said all that, it was ridiculously well located, and cheap, so I can't grumble too much.
Emma has just left for JFK airport, leaving me stranded in NY, fearful and alone. It's not all bad, though. It's incredibly hot and sunny outside, for one. Also, I'm now entering "work time", so I've checked into a nice hotel on the company's cash. It has an excellent iPod dock, on which I am listening to Do Not Multiply Models by CiM. And there's a DVD player.
I've bought so much stuff in the last couple of days, I genuinely fear for my baggage allowance on the way home. I'm also aching from doing flying trapeze yesterday (don't ask, it was Emma's idea).
Lots more photos on Flickr, here.
Until yesterday I had a massive scratch across the screen of my iPod. I used this Applesauce product, and with a bit of elbow grease, by God it's disappeared. It's basically a very mild abrasive that rubs down your iPod to the depth of the scratch - it works on the screen or anywhere else on the iPod. Then you use the special polish to buff the shine back into it. I guess it's a bit like a French polish. Takes a while to get deep scratches out but definitely worth it. Sounds like an advert, I know, but this stuff is bloody marvellous. It smells weirdly appetising as well. Crap name though.
I am currently without a mobile because of a nonsensical situation with my (ex-)network provider. I dumped them today and I'm getting a nice new Nokia N73 on Virgin Mobile.
I also don't have an iPod at the moment. Bought a new one off eBay and sold the old Shuffle but I'm still waiting - two weeks and counting! - for it to arrive. This is also annoying as I've been required to travel to London twice in the last couple of weeks and was forced to listen to the pathetically patchy radio signal that Virgin trains beams to the seats. How did we live without iPods? Ah yes, we listened to "minidisc Walkmans" and read "books".
Luckily I still have the trusty iBook (photo available in my Photos, iBook lovers) but dragging it to the train station and halfway across London just to listen to iTunes seems like a bit of a waste of effort.
Anyway, the point is I am technologically naked, in a very real sense.
