Have you ever seen a caravan with a hundred buzzing flies in it? It's not that pleasant.

If you ever find yourself in this situation, I recommend fly spray and a vacuum cleaner to hoover the dead/alive flies up. Watch the flies drop like... flies. Do not allow your dog to eat the poisoned corpses.

We are guessing there were some unhatched eggs or larvae hiding somewhere in the van. When we arrived on Friday evening, the heat from the heater we switched caused them to materialise from the depths. (Like I say, this is a guess. I really have no idea about the life cycle of house flies. Or indeed caravan flies.) At first we were annoyed because there were a few flies. BUT THINGS RAPIDLY GREW OUT OF CONTROL.

We've spent the last couple of days vacuuming dead flies off the window sills (in common with several of our caravan neighbours, who had similar problems). Also, I had a cold. I watched Goldfinger on the TV yesterday while it rained outside. It really was a fun time!

(By the way, I know I've written about disgusting episodes involving insects before. I am clearly prone to insect attack, for whatever reason. The weird weather could be to blame.)

I'm back from my holidays and thought I would share some once-in-a-lifetime memories. Of them.

I went to the Lake District on Sunday. Here are some blurry photos from my phone. The last one shows one of the wind turbines at Kirkby Moor wind farm, outside Ulverston. I think wind turbines look quite nice - they add something futuristic and white to the rural landscape.

It was the first time Bear met Barney, who belongs to Emma's mum's partner (I hesitate to use the word "boyfriend" for any man over 50). It wasn't wholly successful. They had to be kept separate.
